According to an article in the New York Times, the European Commission will permit Oracle to acquire Sun, reportedly after Oracle agreed to preserve the viability of MySQL. Oracle had apparently, among other things, agreed to extend MySQL’s existing commercial licenses for up to five years and commit not to pursue intellectual property claims against users of MySQL.

Nokia announced it will acquire Symbian and make the source code available as open source materials, reportedly under the eclipse public license.
February 26, 2008 — Sun Microsystems, Inc. acquired MySQL AB, developer of the popular open source database, for approximately $1 billion.
Sun has agreed to acquire MySQL, a leading open source supplier of database software.
Citrix Systems, Inc. acquired XenSource, Inc., for approximately $500 million in a combination of cash and Citrix common stock. The Xen project, which which develops a virtualization engine, was led by XenSource’s co-founder, who became a Citrix employee.
Red Hat has agreed to buy JBoss for approximately $350 million plus potentially an additional $70m.
Oracle has acquired Sleepycat Software, Inc., a supplier of open source database software for developers of embedded applications.
